Comprehensive PackagesBasic Process
The focus is on the next step of the admissions process, compiling and revising a balanced list of prospective schools or colleges, to be categorized as reach, likely, backup or safety, and completing the personal statement. A comprehensive plan provides a timeline throughout the process, helping the student prepare in advance to meet deadlines while remaining positive and productive. Various aspects of the application are reviewed by the counselor prior to submission. Once admissions notifications are made, all parties meet to deliberate a final school. Students work independently, completing tasks between appointments, such as application questions and/or supplements, yet does not include editing responses or submitting applications with or by the counselor. Extra Step In addition to the previous options, this plan incorporates the completion of admissions applications during student consultations, including modifications of all aspects of each application, portfolio, and resume, which are relevant to selective programs and scholarships. Applications are submitted under the direction of the counselor who proofs, oversees, and navigates the complications which can occur during this exciting, yet often stressful step. The counselor may contact the admissions committee to elaborate, advocate, and/or endorse a client. After placement, the counselor may assist with the transition and often visits the student once on campus. The Whole Shebang Although all students are encouraged to text when scheduling or changing appointments, these students and their parents periodically correspond with the counselor to address issues when they arise, ask questions, or review plans in addition to their scheduled appointment times. Students often expand their qualifications by considering GAP, Summer Enrichment programs, or internships. |
Families can initiate services at any point during high school. Students are best prepared when previous consideration
has been given to course selection, standardized testing, and community service. By January, juniors should begin
preparing for campus visits and summer programs. Ironically, most high school juniors think they have plenty of time to plan, yet seniors admit they are rushed for time.
